New Submissions Welcome
We Need You – In 2020 the Little Compton Historical Society is celebrating the history of Little Compton’s women. We will expand our archive of women’s documents, photographs and objects, continue to build this website to share the histories of more Little Compton women, and create a special exhibition exploring the lives of local women from the 1600s to the present day. We want ALL women with a connection to Little Compton to be included, whether they are living or deceased; born here or recently arrived; year-round, part-time or former residents; frequent visitors, or employed in the community. We need your help to accomplish these goals.
Share With Us – Please share your memories of Little Compton women with us; loan your family portraits, photographs, and objects; or research a local woman. We also invite all Little Compton women to share their autobiographies with us. Who better to tell your story than you! All histories and images sent to lchistory@littlecompton.org by May 1, 2020 will be added to the website in time for our exhibit opening on July 3. Due to the Covid 19 epidemic, that opening may be digital rather than in person. Please check this website for updates. All histories received after April 21 will be added at a later date. This is an on-going project. It is never too late to send a history.
A Crowdsourced Project – Crowdsourcing is a relatively new term in the field of history that recognizes that the combined knowledge of a community is greater than that of any individual or organization. We hope that hundreds of people in our community will share their knowledge with us to make the Women’s History Project as inclusive and well-informed as possible. Every story matters.
