SUMMARY:Annual Meeting 2026
DESCRIPTION:The Little Compton Historical Society invites you to join us for the 2026 Annual Meeting. \n\n\n\n\n7:00 pm: Business Meeting\n\n\n\n7:15pm: Revolutionary Little Compton: History in their Own Words \n\nA presentation of the experiences of Little Compton residents during the Revolution. \n\n\n\n\n\n8:00 pm: Reception & Book Sales and Signing\n\n\n\n\nThe event will be live streamed on YouTube. The starting time is around 7 pm on August 12th. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nClick here to see the Live Stream!\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis year’s Little Compton Historical Society’s Annual Meeting will bring the experiences of the town’s Revolutionary War veterans and their family members to life. “Remembering the Revolution in Little Compton\,” is an original spoken word performance written by the Historical Society’s president\, Steven Lubar\, Professor of History and American Studies. \n\n\n\nAll of the memories in this performance are taken directly from documents written during the Revolution and the years following and were painstakingly researched by Professor Lubar. Newspaper articles and town council minutes reveal the debates that led up to the War\, military records provide details\, and the lived experiences of local veterans and their widows are drawn directly from their applications for government pensions. These documents reveal Little Compton’s residents’ many roles during the Revolution\, which were often far more harrowing than we once believed. Volunteers will read from original documents\, narrator Marc Anderson will provide historic context to the recollections\, violist Florrie Marshall will accompany the speakers with Revolutionary-era compositions\, and the Reverend George Harris will lead the audience in a period hymn. \n\n\n\n“Remembering the Revolution in Little Compton” will take place following a brief business meeting at 7 PM\, Wednesday\, August 12 at the Little Compton Congregational Church on the Commons. The presentation is free and open to the public. Reservations are not required. Seating is first come first served. The evening is made possible through the generous support of RI250\, BayCoast Bank\, Ocean State Charities Trust\, and dozens of Historical Society supporters. \n\n\n\nThere will be a reception following the presentation with light refreshments and a signing by Dr. Lubar of his new book “Remembering the Revolution: Little Compton\, Rhode Island\,” which features the Revolutionary-era recollections of dozens of Little Compton men\, women\, and children. The Historical Society’s new book “Reconnections: A New History of the Sakonnet Wampanoag People” will also be available for sale. \n\n\n\nFor anyone unable to attend the meeting in person\, a link to a live broadcast will be available on the Historical Society’s website littlecompton.org and “Revolutionary Little Compton” will soon be available for sale in the Society’s online shop.
