SUMMARY:Artifact Recovery Days
DESCRIPTION:Help the Little Compton Historical Society recover artifacts – like ceramic sherds and handmade nails – once used by the occupants of the c. 1691 Wilbor House. Use real archaeological tools to find\, sort\, and clean artifacts. Then compare the discoveries to previous finds to identify the artifacts and their role in the Wilbor household.\n\nWe’ve uncovered over 1\,000 artifacts since June\, from a 180 square foot trench dug as part of a construction project. The artifacts deepen our understanding of the Wilbor House and its residents.\n\nAfter you dig\, we encourage you to take a guided tour of the Wilbor House and view our exhibits. The Stories Houses Tell is our current special exhibition & is available until October 16. It features our archaeological findings from the Wilbor House and two other sites in Little Compton. Our permanent exhibits are Everyone Was a Farmer and Terra Nova\, Vida Nova. More information is available at littlecompton.org.\n\nVolunteers of all ages are welcome to contribute to the project. Those under 13 years of age must be accompanied by an adult. Email programs@littlecompton.org to register.
